In the 6 months following their formation, this Vancouver quartet have quickly established themselves as a band to watch in the Vancouver indie scene. They’ve appeared on all of the city’s most notable DIY stages, performed at CiTR 101.9’s iconic battle of the bands, Shindig, and were featured in Exclaim!’s December issue as one of eight Canadian New Faves. Wiles are a tight-knit, energetic force, and their upcoming EP “If You Can Hear Me Now You’re Not Far Enough Away” showcases their signature synthesis of aughts indie tones and Canadian folk songwriting. It maintains a feminine POV through tender yet defiant lyrics and vocal delivery. It’s alt rock at its most authentic and a call to action for those who don’t already have Wiles on their radar to tune in.

On Monoliths, Tractor Beam Builds Their Own Sci-fi Folk Universe. [Out October 18th 2024] [Via Good Stones // Calm Water]

On their new single Toronto native Sasha Balazic & Co. ponder every avenue of the young band's eclectic DIY sound. “I warned you / that we are not alone! / There are monoliths in Johannesburg / There are more popping up every day!” opens the front-person tenderly, over break beats and acoustic guitar. Monoliths is a contemplation on what happens to us when we move to bigger cities; through three & a half minutes the band moves through worlds of acoustic and digital decay before landing on the fuzzy, folky and earnest finale.

After forming the post-folk collective at the University of British Columbia in 2022 and establishing themselves as a new act to watch in Canadian music, the band is set to reunite in their hometown of Toronto this spring 2025.
